Datalog illegible

Postby Daily_Driver » Tue Feb 14, 2017 9:52 pm

I drove my car today for the first time using my UT Comp pro. I set it up to datalog several values such as RPM, AFR, and fuel pressure. I set it to record when the vehicle was moving. I only drove a short distance (perhaps 1/2 mile) and when I tried to save the file, it offered CSV. I saved it and when I tried to open it (Libre Office) it was a bunch of weird characters.

Is there a setting I'm missing?

Sorry for the delay, I have been away from the project for a few days and got some time today.

I drove the car a few miles and am attaching the log I downloaded from the device. It will not open as a .csv file, so I'm not sure what the problem is. When I looked at it with Notepad I saw a bunch of weird characters.

My UT Comp settings-advanced-datalogger are to datalog when the ignition is on and speed greater than 0. I'm trying to capture:
Interval: 10 parameters every 1 second
Bank 0: Timestamp
Bank 1: Travel time
Bank 2: Speed
Bank 3: RPM
Bank 4: Current fuel consumption
Bank 5: AFR
Bank 6: Pressure/boost
Bank 7: Fuel pressure sensor
Banks 8-9: Disabled

I can't attach a .csv or .txt file, so I changed the extension to .zip. It is not a zip file. Please change it back to .csv before looking at it.

Yes this is something strange with the file. I did not have such issue before so we will need to find out.
I think that data in UTCOMP is stored properly - there is something wrong with application and OS compatibility.
Please tell me which OS are you using and do you have .NET 4 installed? What is your localization settings in system? Maybe something with encoding.

I have tried it using Windows XP SP3 (laptop) and Apache Open Office 3 calc, also Win 7 Ultimate 64 using Excel 2003 and Libre Office 5 calc (desktop). Same results with all attempts. As for .NET, on the laptop it is version 4.0.30319. On the desktop, it is version 4.5.51209.

You'll need to explain localization, not sure what that is.

I hope the data is stored, I'd like to use the test runs I performed.

It will be hard to find reason without the device. I've never had such issue. Data is stored in internal flash - the same FLASH memory is used for GUI graphics. If GUI is working ,than FLASH is fine too. If UTCOMP is working and is connecting with USB that it seems that firmware is working fine too. So, by deduction, I guess it is something with os. Software for .csv file (open office etc.) does not matter - your file seems to be corrupted and it has only 1.5kB. So it seems that it is something with downloading data from UTCOMP or with saving downloaded data to file. Downloading data is probably fine, because you can read UTCOMP settings (I guess). You can check also if you can download FLASH GUI graphic file (viewtopic.php?f=28&t=54) - it should have 64kB. If it works, than only saving data to external file is not working properly. The questions is - why? It will be hard to answer for it because it is working fine for me and nobody had similar issue. I'm thinking that it is maybe something with system localization settings (control panel -> region and languages) - there are some settings for language, data formats, localization country etc - could you tell me what settings you have set so I can test it with the same settings? (screenshot will be fine)

Screenshot attached. Everything beyond that such as locale is English United States.

I'm also going to try getting data with just the engine running and see if it collects any that way.

I redid the settings so it logged when the key was on. I ran the engine sitting still for a couple of minutes.

The .csv file I got is attached. I'm making headway, I now have data categories but no data. See attached screenshot from Libre Office Calc from my desktop computer. To get this file, in the datalogging setup I click "Import data from UTCOMP-PRO" and then when the "Save data to .csv file" tab is available I click it and save the file to my laptop. It seems like all I'm getting are my data categories. Am I doing this part wrong?

Now it seems that .csv file is correct but data is missing.
Are you sure that you have enabled logging? Which option do you have selected in "Logger" setting?

Categories are saved to logger each time ignition is switched on.
Data is recorded only if conditions from "logger" settings are met.

Please share your utcomp settings file.

This appears to have been resolved. I'll attach the latest datalog, which now has data. I think what I was doing wrong was not saving settings to the UT Comp.

While I'm here, I noticed the fuel pressure reading is in volts. Is there a way to have that displayed directly in PSI? The UT Comp displays it correctly in PSI. Also a similar concern for vacuum/boost. The car was in boost for a few seconds on the attached log. The UT Comp display shows vac/boost in inches of Mercury, but it is not on the log, all the readings are way too low and none are positive, are they in bar?

EDIT
I have added formulas to the spreadsheet to convert bar to PSI and volts to PSI.
