Logging older engine

Postby 1948TC » Fri Apr 05, 2024 12:41 pm

I have an older car (1948 MG TC supercharged). It has a distributor and carburettor, no ECU and few sensors.
As well as some of the things you have listed on here (eg: boost, EGt, etc) I want to monitor RPM, knock and ignition advance.
Is it possible to monitor and log these parameters? How would you recommend collecting the necessary signals?
Thanks in advance...

For RPM you will need any signal from hall sensor (you can assembly universal hall sensor with magnets https://www.reveltronics.com/downloads/ ... E4905L.pdf)

Knock and ignition advance unfortunately is not supported.

Thank you,
I get the rpm method. I think I could use this knock sensor which has a 0-5v output.
Would I be able to connect this to an analogue channel and log it?

Yes you can connect it to any AdcX input and use other value scaling which you are not using, e.g. connect is as EGT, AFR, Boost or anything else and scale it to your needs and then you can log it in datalogger.

Hi,
I have the UTcomp pro installed in my car with most sensors connected.
Although the calibrations could still be improved all seems to be working well.
I am now getting to know the logging capabilities and have a few questrions:
1. I have the pressure settings in preferences set to psi. That is how they appear on the screen but in the logger files it looks like the values are in Bar. Is this what you would expect?
2. I have a knock detector connected to Adc1 configured as 'Osciloscope'. How do I get these values into the data log?
3. I cannot connect my phone to the logger. I have USB OTG available and can connect other USB devices but the UTcomp remains not connected. Am I missing something?
Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,

Re1. Yes, basic units are in metric and are rescaled only on screen
Re2. There is no such option but there is workaround. You can configure it as other not used value, e.g. EGT AFR or something else which can be logged
Re3. Please make sure that ignition switch is ON and +12V power supply is connected. Does it connect with PC UTCOMP windows app?

Thank you Artur,
Can I just check that the metric/imperial rule also applies to speed. Therefore the VSS signal would be logged in km/hr?
