Calibration for three-wire sensor with 5.2 volt VREF

Postby Kaldek » Mon Aug 15, 2016 2:07 am

I am about to install a UTCOMP Pro for a friend where we are using dedicated MAP and oil pressure sensors which both use three wires (+5v, GND, Signal). One of these is the same oil pressure sensor you sell, and we will be using the +5v signal from the UTCOMP used for the digital temperature sensors.

My question is how do I correct the calibration readings for this sensor when the UTCOMP VREF is 5.2 volts rather than 5 volts? For example, if 0 psi on this sensor is normally 0.5 volts, do I just add 0.2 volts to the reading so that 0 psi is 0.7 volts and 150 psi is 4.7 volts?

First of all, on DS18B20 power supply lines you will get +5.0V +/- 0,1V (it's not the same voltage as VREF). It is connected only when you have switched ignition on (so all sensors connected to this line are not powered in sleep mode - energy saving).
Secondly, these sensors does not have to have exactly +5.0V.. typically this type of sensors have power supply range +4.5...+5.5V (they have built-in power regulator) so.. don't worry, just connect as it is :-) Anyway, with VREF 5.2 you will have 5.0 +/- 0.1 on this output.
