QSFP28 Read

Postby EZi » Mon Jun 12, 2023 7:07 pm

Hello,

I am trying to read a QSFP28/100G adapter (Intel) but in the output I am getting some weird characters (not vendor name, serial etc). Should I change anything? I chose QSFP from the menu. I tried to read SFP+ and it returned valid data (vendor name etc). The software version is the 1.9.1.

Could you check in your QSFP datasheet how is it coded? It should be SFF-8436 or SFF-8636 which is valid for QSFP transceivers but I think that your QSFP transceived is compilant with SFF-8472 which is valid for SFP/SFP+. It happens rarely but when it happen, in such case it should be read/write as SFP not QSFP.

PS. you can read more about MSA standards here: viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1017

Thanks for the reply.

The datasheet says the it is following the spec SFF-8636
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... brief.html

I got some results when I set the area to 128B Page Mapping. Is this right?

Also, I am trying to start password tool but I am getting the error "device TIMEOUT". Any help on this?

Please share me dump file which you read as QSFP and the one you read as SFP.
Does brute force work as SFP?

It based on SFF-8636, and check you power supply if returns error.
I have several the same modules, and test all are fine.

Sorry for the late response. How I can check the power supply?
@thankfly are you selecting QSFP type? Also are you getting results with the read operation with the default settings? (256)
@ArT How can I send you the dumps? Directly or I can post them here?

The page select file (128B) looks fine, but A0 area file (256B) looks corrupted, in second half only 2 first bytes are read correctly. Please select "BP" checkbox - any difference?

Hello,

Yes, using BP the read is correct. What is the case? What is the function of BP?
Also, when I am trying to 'bruteforce' the password I am getting device timeout error.
