Trying to read 25WP080 not working

Postby Biggermens » Sat Mar 13, 2021 11:10 pm

Hello everyone

I am trying to read this 25WP080 and its not working
I tried 20..080 Eeprom, it reads but its all FF FF FF
I also tried 20..080 WP Flash and I get Device Not Found
I double checked my connection and everything is good I did set the voltage at 1.8V
the datasheet says 1.65V to 1.95V

Not sure what I am doing wrong ?

Thanks

It's FLASH 8Mbit. If device is not found you have connection issue or power supply issue or external board does not allow for incircuit programming. Please select FLASH -> 25 series -> 25..080 [PP] and try with 1.8V or 2.0V. You can also try READ ID. If you have communication error please read Chapter 5 in manual for more details (possible traps and solutions) or desolder the chip and programm it in adapter, it should work.

Hi Art

Thanks for your help, I will try that and Read Chapter 5,
I have seen others read it on the board and be successful with a different programmer
Is it a possibility that other programmers can read it on the board and the Revelprog can't ??
May take some time but, I will let you know how i make out,

Thank you very much

Yes it's possible in case of current limit. REVELPROG-IS has built in protection + current limit at 100mA - if it will be higher current you will get overload error. But if it can be read with other programmer in circuit and current not exceed above limit it will work.

Hi Art

Thanks for your help, I got it working, :) i guess my clip is not the best, was a connection problem
I have a new clip coming
Now i am trying to program a Windbond W25Q16FW, I can read it no problem but can't flash it
said device not found, I was able to flash it just one time,
It seams like it might not have worked anyway, the version was the same as before unless i flashed it with the backup i make

Did you ever see anything like that ??
Still might be my clip, i have not got the new one yet

Thanks

Changing fw does not have influence on programming FLASH, but when it's in external circuit and is communicating with uC everything is possible (changed firmware may change communication with flash). Do you have possibility to desolder the chip and try in adapter? You can also try to increase voltage +0,3V and check it.
