Hi Arthur,
I installed the pro kit 2018 and it has worked flawlessly ever since. I've gone through all the updates in between (currently 3.8).
A few weeks ago, I noticed that the date and time were reset when I switched on the ignition in the morning - all other data had been retained. A quick adjustment of date+time and UTCOMP worked perfectly again. Unfortunately, this happened more and more often over the last weeks and now I have the following situation:
The display now stays off when starting the vehicle. During the following journey it takes about 15-20 minutes, then the beeper sounds and the display shows normally (except date and time). UTCOMP functions normally for the rest of the day.
But if the vehicle is parked overnight or for several days, the problem repeats itself (display dark, after several minutes beep/reset and normal operation). The car battery is OK (measured 12.4 V before starting, delivers > 480 A @ 11.4V when starting my old V8), continuous plus and ignition plus are connected and I have checked the wiring.
Any suggestions for this problem? Is there a battery/rechargeable battery or similar inside the UTCOMP that I need to replace?
best regards
Frank

Hi Frank,
Please check the capacitors inside, as they may need replacement after all these years. First and foremost, replace the two goldcaps (supercapacitors functioning as small batteries). These are the green components shown in the picture: The current components are DRL105S0TF12RRASP, but you can use any other capacitor with a minimum rating of 1F and 2.7V (0.5F will also work). This should help resolve this type of issue. If not, we will investigate further. You can also send module to our service and we will check it.

Hi Arthur,
thank you very much for your prompt feedback. I ordered some from Eaton which look very similar:

Hope they will solve the problem.

Hi Arthur,
I replaced both of them as you recommended (one of them already had a big ‘bump’ on top) and UTCOMP now starts as it did all the years. Will observe it for a couple of days now but I think the problem is solved - thank you very much!

Hello. I have the same problem.
In my country (Malta) I cannot find Super Capacitors. I also tried online, but the shipping will be very very expensive.
Can I use normal electrolytic capacitor 1uF 2.7v?
Thank you

1uF will be not sufficient. There are already 100uF/50V on output so you can stay without supercapacitors, it will work, but it in some cases in may restart during cranking when voltage drops below 8V.

I have managed to order some super capacitors. I will install them once they arrive. Thank youArT wrote:1uF will be not sufficient.
